At The Victory Primary School, we appreciate how
learning and having access to a high-quality foreign language opens up endless
opportunities, now and for the future, which helps children to deepen their
understanding of other cultures around the world.
The teaching of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
should enable our pupils to build strong foundations which they can strengthen
as they move into KS3, KS4 and beyond; where they can express their ideas and
thoughts, in another language, and to understand and respond to its speakers,
both in speech and in writing, with confidence.
Spanish, at The Victory Primary, is currently
taught weekly by the class teachers or HLTAs in KS2 and follows a clear
progression of skills. We use an interactive approach to the learning,
supported by Primary Languages Network, which compliments all the objectives
laid out in the National Curriculum. All learning is taught progressively to
include the key skills of: Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing, Basic Grammar
and Phonics, through Years 3–6, with activities that build on and embed
previous learning.
